Mother Kept Her Word
This is a piece inspired by the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was written in the 1800's and is about slavery in the United States. I really enjoyed this book and it is now one of my favorites. I wrote about the bond between a mother and son, both of whom are slaves, when all they had was each other. It really touched me, and i hope you enjoy it as well!

Blinks
This is TWO poems. I write, and then it's too short. I try to expand, but all that happens is the words get longer. The first was a freewrite. The second has no title yet. Suggestions welcome. I wrote that after talking to a friend about some arts school and then having a weird dream the next night about waking up from this life into another one and wondering if it's actually as much of a dream as sleep. I'm still confused.

Jade Nelson- Goodbye, Mask
I felt the need to write this poem after multiple epiphanies I had going into high school. With the help of family and close friends, I'm in the process of finding myself, and discovering who I want to be. How can anyone do that while hiding their inner-being?

Jade Nelson- A Game Called Life
This is the beginning of what I was hoping to become a short story; I began writing this on my free time and decided to turn it in for the fun of it. It's mostly personal and has a lot of meaning behind it.

Fire
*bless!
This is the free write that I wrote, the inspiration was a picture of fire.
11/17/09
The zipping of tents and sleeping bags is what I wake up to. The fire crackles and the light filters through the tent making everything blue. I sit up and stretch. The scent of pancakes entices me out of the warm shelter of our tent and into the cool morning air. I see my dad at the fire pit making pancakes over the fire, my favorite sight in the world.

Ol' Blue Eyes Sinatra
May I say (and not in a shy way) that Frank "Ol' Blue Eyes" Sinatra was definetly was one of the greatest people of all time. He was such a great singer that he sold out wherever he went. People went nuts when he appeared. I decided to write this piece after reading his biography. I left out some details to let you imagine the rest. Finally knowing his story inspired me to be myself no matter what everyone thinks.
Hence the saying "He did it his way."

Texting, Oh Texting
I wrote this piece because I think texting is taking over our ever day lives. I have to admit that I did get a new phone for Christmas, and I do text a lot. Who doesn't? In my poem I tend to refer to texting like it's King Kong taking over the world. I do this because it truly annoys me when you are trying to hold a conversation with someone, but you can't because they are trying to multi-task. From what I know, most people can't hold two conversations at once. I guess what I'm getting to is that we need to work on face-to-face communication and phone calls. That is how things get done. That is how we advance society. I'm pretty sure President Obama doesn't text what he plans to do to Congress.

A Memory
For this portfolio piece, I wanted to show the reader a memory from my childhood. It wasn't the best, but surely one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I also wanted to share the same emotions and feelings I had through this experience, like in a regular story. I hope you like it! Please if you don't like it, then just tell me because I don't even know if this is a could peice or not:/

The Defeat of a Bully
This is a piece that i wrote with the inspiration from two places. One was a short story I read, "The Scarlet Ibis." This story was a part of my inspiration because the main character's brother, Doodle was pushed to excel in a way that could be considered bullying. The other inspiration was real life around me. Everyday if you look around you see different things happening. I saw jerks, innocence, annoyance and people just being plain rude. I decided to make a scene to show the emotions of the bully, and the bullied with a great outcome in the end.

“Commodore Emulator”
My online Writer’s Portfolio Piece was a choice piece. It was inspired by my little brother’s obsession of old computers − particularly the Commodore VIC−20, a BASIC computer used for programming step by step. In my piece, the “program” is already running. My piece is the transcript of how I think the supercomputer would respond to a scenario where war is forever, aka infinite. In order for it to do so, the supercomputer scans its database, which would be really a dictionary, and puts together whether or not it would be possible and why, (of course, a real supercomputer would have much more than six “intersecting definitions”, but that would go on for more than two pages). Finally, I would just like to add that this supercomputer must not be connected to historical events or be at all conscience, because common sense tells us that nothing can last forever, especially war.

Friends
I wrote this piece of writing because I feel that friends are very important in ones life, so I decided to write about the qualities a "good" friend would have. I wrote my piece of writing in the form of a poem, for peoms are more difficult for me to write than straight forward essays. Not only did i decide to pick an acrostic poem, but for every letter of my acrostic poem I created a haiku poem. I believe I grew as a writer not only because I feel my poem was well written, but because I used a more difficult genre that I think is harder to write.

Welcome to the Writers' Forum!
This is a place to celebrate writing! I hope you enjoy sharing your writing with one another as much as I have enjoyed reading your writing througout the first semester. You all have unique voices and bright, creative minds, and you are growing as writers each time you put pen to paper or hands to a keyboard. Please be respectful of your fellow writers and their work as you post comments on our forum.
As playwright Tom Stoppard said- "Words are sacred. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little."
